MEDUZA gives Friday a house-music anchor. Around it, the October 22–25 weekend has room for a heavy three-band bill, Creole musical theater, a new Atlanta DJ collective and a night devoted to DJ Shadow's debut album.

This is the third Sin List: six picks with six different reasons to go. Start with the District booking, then follow the rest from Thursday into Saturday night. Five are in Atlanta; the late-night El Super Pan selection takes us to the Battery in metro Atlanta.

1. MEDUZA at District

Friday, October 23 · Doors 10 p.m. · District Atlanta · 21+

“Piece Of Your Heart,” “Lose Control,” “Paradise”: the Italian production trio has several vocal collaborations to start with. Our five-track listening guide follows those voices through the catalog and ends with the Eli & Fur collaboration “Pegasus.” District confirms the Friday booking.

Why it's on the list: A familiar song gives you a way into the night before you reach the dance floor. Work through the vocal records, then try the extended “Pegasus” mix. MEDUZA is our Friday anchor for a weekend with house at its center and several other sounds around it.

2. Mastodon with Deafheaven and Alcest

Thursday, October 22 · Show 7 p.m.; doors 6 p.m. · The Eastern · All ages

Mastodon headlines a three-band bill at the Eastern. Deafheaven's booking biography describes screams, layered guitars and blastbeats; Alcest's label emphasizes the meeting of black-metal intensity and melodic beauty.

Why it's on the list: The whole bill is the reason to arrive early. Those different approaches to heavy music give Thursday a substantial live-band option before the weekend's club nights. Pick this one if guitars are where you want the weekend to begin.

3. Flamboyants! at 7 Stages

Thursday–Friday, October 22–23 · 7:30–8:50 p.m. · 7 Stages Theatre

Réunion Island's Tilawcis brings documentary theater, music and projections to Little Five Points. 7 Stages describes a production connecting Réunion, New Orleans and Puerto Rico through five languages and musical traditions including maloya, bomba and Mardi Gras Indian songs. Supporting presenter Villa Albertine confirms the two evenings and performance times.

Why it's on the list: Music carries the story here. The connection between three Creole communities gives this evening a subject to follow as well as sounds to hear. It's our pick for a night built around performance, storytelling and a different part of Atlanta's cultural calendar.

4. EQUE Presents: The First Gathering

Friday, October 23 · 8 p.m.–2:30 a.m. · The Garden Club at Wild Heaven West End · 18+

EQUE Collective's launch listing brings together four local DJs: Caroline Arnich, Laurent, Rom Hakim and Rhannya. The advertised mix is house and indie house, with Konfeta painting live and a local vendor joining the night at 1010 White Street SW.

Why it's on the list: A first gathering is a chance to meet the people putting a party together. The local lineup and live painting make the launch specific: Atlanta DJs and visual art sharing a room. This is our Friday pick for following a collective from its beginning.

5. DJ Shadow: 30 Years of Endtroducing

Saturday, October 24 · Show 8 p.m.; doors 7 p.m. · The Eastern · All ages

DJ Shadow returns to his 1996 debut for its thirtieth anniversary. In his tour announcement, he describes the first set he's put together focused solely on Endtroducing. The Atlanta date brings that premise to the Eastern, with Day Tripper also listed.

Why it's on the list: The album gives this booking a clear center. You have a specific record to spend time with before the show and an artist returning to it thirty years later. This is our Saturday pick for following one body of work into the room.

6. Noche Tropical at El Super Pan

Saturday, October 24 · 11 p.m.–2 a.m. · El Super Pan at the Battery · Metro Atlanta

El Super Pan's dated Saturday listing pairs a live DJ and dancing with tropical cocktails and late-night snacks. This is the Battery location at 455 Legends Place SE, suite 862, in Cobb County. The listing doesn't name the DJ or specify the musical genres.

Why it's on the list: Food and dancing share the same late-night stop. For a group already spending Saturday around the Battery, the restaurant-party setting gives the evening somewhere to continue. It's our metro Atlanta option for a night that can move from the table to the floor.
